What e-Labs Can Offer To You and Your School

The e-Labs:

e-Labs are technology learning labs.  It takes state-of-the-art technology and provides limitless information to the student.  e-Labs is the heart of school providing children of all ages the ability to manipulate whole virtual systems, from cities to countries all over the world.  Children can take on the persona of a peasant farmer in Bangladesh, a police officer in Nigeria, a lawyer in the United States, or an architect planning futuristic city.  With these tools, students can act like scientists and innovators. They can arrive at their own conclusions through controlled experimentation and what scientists call enlightened trial and error. 

e-Labs can also offer One-to-One computing, in which each student has a lesson plan that is specific to his or her learning ability.  For true technological advance to occur, computers must be personal to each learner.  Each student in the e-Labs will log in under their username and will access their own personal computer.  When used properly, these computers become extensions of the students’ personal self.

Students today are “digital natives” and are born into digital technology.  Conversely, older adults and some teachers are “digital immigrants.”  Having learned about technology later in life, digital immigrants don’t tend to value the scope of the virtual reality and what one can learn online.  Such outmoded perspectives are serious barriers to our students’ 21st-century progress. 

The e-Labs and the Green World:

We, at e-Labs, believe that schools can be a microcosm for the greater society of the possibilities that exist when individuals take remedial steps to lower their ecological footprint for the benefit of the global village. 

One out of five people who live in this country – 55 million children, teachers, administrators, nurses and janitors – spend their days in K-12 schools.  Schools can provide a healthy environment for students and staff, while promoting ecological sustainability, by using alternatives to toxic chemicals, pursuing green building maintenance practices, changing their resource consumption patterns and teaching students to be stewards of their communities, the earth and its resources.  We invite you to imagine this “green” reality with us.  e-Labs would like to offer you the opportunity to give our students the knowledge, skills, tools and motivation to be global, green citizens of the world.

The e-Labs Cloud Computing:

e-Labs leverages Cloud Computing technologies, where computer hardware and software are shifted from the individual labs to various, distributed, secure locations.  At each site, expensive, energy-thirsty servers and PCs disappear; all that remain are energy efficient “thin client” workstations and fast connections to the Cloud.  Software and their associated licenses are also consolidated within the Cloud, but the user still experiences the applications as if they were local.  The result: each site’s carbon footprint and Total Cost of Ownership are dramatically reduced, while each student’s learning experience remains rich and unaffected by the consolidation.
